The mission of the Safe Kids McHenry County (SKMC) is to unite a diverse group of individuals and organizations that are committed to childhood injury prevention. Our focus is on providing parents and caregivers with practical and proven resources to protect children from unintentional injuries, the number one killer of kids in the United States. SKMC collaborates with the Safe Kids Chicago Coalition and is a division of the Safe Kids Illinois Coalition, the official link to Safe Kids Worldwide.
Activities have included training opportunities for individuals to become certified car seat technicians, multiple car seat checkpoints (free to the public), processing child fingerprinting at health and safety fairs, fitting of bike helmet sales, and providing injury prevention information through distribution and/or speaker presentations.
Safe Kids also focuses on fire prevention safety, water safety, poison prevention, home safety including tip over prevention.
